More Details

Inverurie is best-known for its locomotive works and Kemnay for its quarries, and both these important local industries are covered in this book. Originally a small farming community, Inverurie began to prosper with the opening of the Aberdeenshire Canal in 1805. This was superseded by the Great North of Scotland Railway's line from Aberdeen (opened in 1854), and the town's railway associations were confirmed when the GNSR's locomotive works were relocated there in the early years of the twentieth century. Keenly aware of the opportunities (and threats!) posed by motor transport, the GNSR also operated its own buses in this part of Scotland, and two of these have been included in the book. Elsewhere you'll find pictures of all the key streets and sights of both Inverurie and Kemnay, accompanied by detailed captions
