More Details
This guide, produced by the Organisation for the Prevention of Intense Suffering (OPIS), was created as a response to a simple but extraordinarily important question: given the amount of intense suffering in the world, and the risks of huge amounts of such suffering occurring in the future, what are the best strategies we can develop to prevent as much of it as possible from happening?
Compassionate Governance: A Strategic Guide to Preventing and Alleviating Global Suffering articulates a vision for a more compassionate future – one where we and our governments care about and act to prevent and alleviate others’ suffering – and some core principles, approaches and policies that may bring us closer to that vision. It takes into account the constraints of the world as it is, including human nature and the complex systems that derive from it, and offers a bridge between a compassionate ethical framework and concrete actions that can help implement these ethics. It also offers recommendations for increasing global cooperation and implementing processes that can lead to better deliberations and solutions. By doing so, we hope to provide inspiration and useful ideas to those seeking change.
