Jackson Hills looked into the horizon, worried that it was going to be sundown before he would get to his checkpoint. He was supposed to have reached the watering hole by now, but he had somehow gotten turned around. He was very thirsty, and had been for miles. It was an alarming situation, and he tipped his ten gallon hat on his head and decided that he needed to make a snap decision.
He had been riding out to his uncle's ranch to help out, but he had never been there before. He wanted to make sure that everything had been set up right, but something had happened and there he was, lost and thirsty in the middle of nowhere. He knew he could follow the sun north to get some help in the morning, but for now, he had nowhere to go.
He got off his horse and strutted forward, hoping to find some signs of water. Soon, he heard twigs breaking, and put his hand at his side, hovering over his pistol.
He tied his horse to a stake and walked forward, his heavy boots stomping the long grass down with ease.
Jackson burst into a clearing, pointing his pistol at none other than a half naked woman, who shrieked and dove into the tiny stream she had been bathing in.
He turned around quickly, embarrassed, and put his pistol away.
“Excuse me, ma'am,” he said, flustered. “I'm just a bit thirsty and didn't know if you were friend or foe.”
“You silly man, get something to drink then, I won't stop you,” she said. “Just don't you go peeking at me.” she cautioned teasingly.
