She couldn't afford to be fired from this job. It was hard enough to find good jobs when certain types of managers looked down on her for her size. She was what the rest of society would call obese, what her doctor called someone with an, “unhealthy weight,” and to top it off, her passion was clothing and design, so of course everyone she worked with was superficial and didn't hesitate to hurt her feelings.

Cindy Hewes arrived at work, tugging at her snugly fitting business dress. It was time for another day of the same old thing. She sighed, and laboriously trudged to her cubicle. It was the furthest workspace from the door, so she had to move past almost everyone on her floor before arriving at her desk. This wouldn't be a big deal for most people, but Cindy was a big girl who happened to be very well-endowed, and walking through narrow rows of chairs and people got pretty awkward sometimes.

Her co-workers didn't generally say anything, though some of them would grunt or sigh in exasperation when she pushed through, and she knew they didn't like her because of her weight. She didn't care about that personally, but it was still annoying to have to deal with their negativity toward her. Everything about this job distressed her, and she was really tired of having to go there every day and do the same thing over and over again.

She had worked at the Special Food Mart for going on seven years. It was a steady source of income in her small town, one that she didn't plan on giving up. It was really difficult to find work there. Everything was a family owned business, and unless you had your own or you were able to travel long distances into the city, where there were plenty of job opportunities, you couldn't find anything.

Unfortunately the commute to the city took an hour and a half, and very few people had the patience to drive that long when most of their money would go into the gas bill in the first place. That's the biggest reason that Lillian was clinging on to her cashier job. It had been an unexpected opportunity, awarded to her by an ex boyfriend's father. He had taken pity on the girl, as his son had treated her poorly due to her weight. He had been very attracted to her, but once the kids at school began taunting him about going out with a fat chick, he had dumped her, publicly and very unmercifully.
