Mary Jane Luther had decided to offer herself in marriage using a mail order service in the small town of Sevierville, Tennessee.

Single women were generally frowned upon, and the choices of men in her area were slim. She had heard of men who were searching for women to help them on a daily basis in return for a place to live and food to eat.

She had been told that many of these marriages turned out well and the couple enjoyed a fulfilling life.

After two failed attempts, Mary Jane was hesitant to accept the proposal of a man from Cheyenne, Wyoming but a friend of hers encouraged her to give it one more try. She would soon learn that God had a plan for her life all along, and it was God who had caused the first two proposals to fall through.

As soon as Mary Jane stepped off the train to look for Carlton Summers she became a stumbling bag of nerves and nearly knocked the two of them to the ground. Embarrassed to find out this was the man she was to marry, Mary Jane apologized profusely.

Little did she know that this was only a small glimpse at what was to come. But despite her penchant for falling when Carl was around, she found herself being drawn to him in ways she never imagined.
