The Story tells about poor Nilambhar Chakravorty who lives in a joint family with his married brother Pitambar , unmarried sister Punnu and wife Biraj . He arranges her sister's marriage and borrows some money but his brother refuse to give any expense and he separates from them. Nilambher unable to find employment and he is unable to pay back the loan. Now he and his wife are in critical situations. In the meantime the contractor Deodhar has his eye on Biraj's beauty. Later, Nilambhar goes to a nearby town for two days. On his return rumors are rife that Biraj was seen near Deodhar's place. Biraj refuses to explain herself and is thus evicted. The question remains why she refused to explain to Nilambher?
