'Death in Genoa; an audio drama', is a dramatic reconstruction of Oscar Wilde's visit to his wife's grave in the cemetery at Staglieno, Genoa, on 26 February 1899.
Wilde described his visit to the cemetery in a letter he wrote to Robbie Ross from Switzerland. 'I went to Genoa to see Constance's grave. It is very pretty - a marble cross with dark ivy inlaid in a good pattern. The cemetery is a garden at the foot of the lovely hills that climb into the mountains that girdle Genoa. It was very tragic seeing her name carved on a tomb - her surname, my name, not mentioned of course - just, "Constance Mary, daughter of Horace Lloyd, QC" and a verse from Revelations. I bought some flowers. I was deeply affected - with a sense, also, of the uselessness of all regrets. Nothing could have been otherwise, and Life is a terrible thing.' Wilde also told Ross in conversation, some time later, that he had 'broken down' at Constance's grave.
