The good girls, those who tread the conventional path, are as memorable as grains of sand on a beach, washed away by the waves of time. In contrast, the rebel women, those who listened to a non-conventional beat, led lives that became the stuff of legend. To borrow from the closing line of Robert Frost's poem, "I took the road less travelled/And that has made all the difference."


Criteria for inclusion entailed women whose nonconventional lives left their DNA on history. Their out-of-the box perspective, coupled with their intrepid natures, made them forces to be reckoned with, a fact that put them at the center of their respective storms. Society has labelled these ferocious femmes as rebellious, bad-ass, nasty, uppity. Although their actions and beliefs often made them social pariahs, they abided by the biblical admonition, "I am what I am."
