Carey had always enjoyed life in the outback with her father and her Uncle Tam, but when her father died, her uncle took her to Two creeks, where the executor of her father’s will Oliver Reddin, lived in luxury. Carey was very young, and quite unused to the sophisticated life the Reddins led. When Oliver unexpectedly married her, she wondered why he had chosen her for his bride – especially when he didn’t treat her as one.
