Saxtorph was, during World War II, one of the first saboteurs in BOPA. He participated in a number of sabotages, and was arrested by the Danish police and imprisoned in Nyborg Statsfængsel until his release in 1945. After the war Saxtorph joined the army and became lieutenant, but after some years he picked up his studies and got the M.A. degree in 1968. He was a curator for Tøjhusmuseet, but returned to the university in 1972.

M.A. and lecturer in History at the University of Copenhagen. Fields of expertise were: the ancient Roman Empire, Military History and the Danish Middle Ages (with special interest for church frescos or church wall paintings). I had the pleasure of being taught by him in his later years 1991/1992 (ancient roman empire). He was a fountain of knowledge and a skilled and humours teacher, always ready with funny little anecdotes and references to Asterix.
