Abbas Khider was born in 1973 in Baghdad. At the age of seventeen, he was arrested for his political activism. Following his release in 1996, he fled Iraq and lived for several years in various countries with irregular refugee status. He has been living in Germany since 2000. Abbas Khider has received numerous literary awards and currently resides in Berlin.
