I'm a Finnish author and designer writing speculative fiction and creating travel guide books for Japan.
My debut novel
Ainoat lapset
is a heart-warming story about big decision in life, set in future Kyoto.
My newest guide book
A Café lover's Tokyo
was published in February 2019. It is a digital guide book listing the best cafés in the metropolitan Tokyo. If you’re travelling to Japan and want to spend your free time wisely only in carefully selected, visually stunning coffee houses, this is the book you’ve been waiting for.

Why are all my books about Japan?
So far, all my guide books are about travelling and living in Japan, and even my first novel is set in future Kyoto. I used to live in Japan during my study years and I still travel there almost yearly. Japanese culture has been an inspiration to me since an early age, and going back to there always feels like going home. I love to write about the beautiful and surprising places I've been to during my travels, and pick only the best of the best experiences to feature in my books.
As a graphic designer by profession, I truly love the whole book creation process from writing board to cover making. For me making guide books means that I plan, write, take and edit photographs, do layout design, draw illustrations and design book covers.
What else I write?
I started my writing with my Finnish blog ages ago and now a days I also write occasionally in English at
Riidesign.com
.
What else do I do?
When I'm not crafting books, I work as an application and digital service designer. I also love painting, drawing, pottery making, reading, and walking in the nature. At home I'm detail oriented interior decorator who loves making floor plans and lots of Pinterest boards
Crooked English..?
I'm a native Finnish speaker, so I hope you'll forgive me my English, that might not always be perfect when I blog or comment on something. Luckily I have amazing native English speakers proof-reading and editing my books, so no worries there!
