Eva Žilková, born in Prague (Czech Republic), studied history and later theology, earning a master’s degree in religious studies. Although she also graduated in finance, her lifelong passion remains ancient history. She often says, with a touch of irony, that she has never recovered from the fall of the Roman Empire and that the present will interest her only once it becomes distant past.
She began writing in 2008 with Star Wars fan fiction and soon turned to her own original stories in the genres of fantasy and science fiction. In 2013 she won the prestigious Czech literary award Cena Karla Čapka (the Karel Čapek Prize) in the Short Story category and was later made a Lady of the Order of Fantasy. She repeated this success in 2025, winning first place in the same category once again. Her collection of short stories Zákon chrličů (The Law of Gargoyles) was published in 2014. In 2023 she released a non-fiction book Chameleon v běhu staletí (The Chameleon Through the Centuries), exploring humanity’s relationship with chameleons since the dawn of history and up to the present day.
