Ersan Üldes was born in Manisa in 1973. He has been living in İstanbul since 1990. He graduated from engineering faculty of YTU in 1995. His first poem was published in Milliyet Sanat in 1990 and it was also his last poem. Since then, he has been writing novels, essays and book reviews. His first novel Yerli Film (Native Film) received the İnkılap Bookstore Novel Award in 1999. He worked as a copy writer for several agencies and founded his own advertising agency in 2001. Other than literature, he is interested in horses, horse growing and racing. Ersan Üldes’ second novel Aldırılan Çocuklar Örgütü (Organization of Aborted Children) was published in 2004. He wrote book reviews for several newspapers and literary magazines. His third novel Zafiyet Kuramı (Theory of Infirmity) was published by Plan B in 2007 and then published also in Syria and Macedonia. An excerpt from The Theory of Infirmity was selected for Dalkey Archive’s Best European Fiction 2011 anthology, edited by Aleksandar Hemon. ‘Derwish’ written by Ersan Üldes and Murat Uyurkulak was translated into French and published in the short story collection Nouvelles de Turquie. Üldes follows both the Turkish and world novel closely and analyzes novel theory. His latest book On Kişot (Ten Quixotes), a study on ten different novels by ten different novelists of Turkish Literature, was published in 2011.
