Farzana Marie is a poet, writer, translator, and artist. She thrives on discovery—finding beauty in the simple, poetry in the unexpected, and potential in the discarded. She holds a Ph.D. at the University of Arizona, on Persian Literature, with a minor in Creative Writing, an M.A. in English from the University of Massachusetts Boston, and a B.S. in Humanities from the U.S. Air Force Academy. Farzana’s poetry and translations have appeared in print and on-line journals. She served on active duty in the U.S. Air Force for over six years, including two consecutive years deployed in Afghanistan, where she also served as a civilian volunteer at a Kabul orphanage in 2003-2004. She is the author of a collection of Persian Dari poetry in translation, Load Poems Like Guns: Women’s Poetry from Herat, Afghanistan (2015), a poetry chapbook, Letters to War and Lethe (2014); and a nonfiction book, Hearts for Sale! A Buyer's Guide to Winning in Afghanistan (2013). She had a severe stroke on the 29th of August, 2015 in Kabul, Afghanistan, that would change her life forever. She created Mug Covers and More so she could turn her personal tragedy into something beautiful… makes silicone mug covers that keep your coffee or tea hot. She is healing constantly and works hard on her speech and writing. She has made exceptional progress, but it is exhausting. This business allows her to switch to her creative side by working with tangible objects to make art (mug covers).
